Why we avoid alcohol during our health reset
For those of you who have joined our 10 day health reset, you may be wondering why we have asked you to avoid alcohol for these 10 days?
Alcohol is a toxin, simple as that. It overloads your liver and kidneys and can cause havoc on your neural system, brain and mood.
I am sure you don't need a dietitian to tell you that alcohol is a toxin. Hangovers speak for themselves. Some people battle more than others with hangovers and this is down to a genetic predisposition in your “ADH gene”. If you feel like your hangovers are getting worse as you age or making you feel quite low and blue, it is very important to listen to what your body is telling you (“please stop!”) to avoid alcohol overall.
Other red flags include: skin breakouts, feeling foggy and less sharp, and mouth ulcers. These are signs that your body isn’t metabolizing the alcohol.
So take home message is that it is really important for you to limit alcohol intake. The short and long term effects are just not worth it. You can start by doing white wine spritzers or limiting to only one glass each time you drink (which should only be occasionally) and drink lots of water to counter this. Also remember to eat clean, load your plate with the whole foods and take a B vitamin to help you out a bit.
Myth:
Some studies have shown that the resveratrol in red wine might be favourable in mopping up some free radical damage. However you would have to drink gallons, which is not recommended by any scientist or doctor to reap the rewards ;)
